Registration
of Animals Online
The ASCBA has invested considerable
funds into setting up the integrated pedigree and performance
recording internet based system. Paper form transactions,
as well as being slower to process, incur higher charges for
data input at ABRI, therefore the use of the Online self input
system is encouraged.

on Registering and Recording.
FORM 1 –
BASE PARENT, RECIPIENT COW & DONOR DAM ENROLMENT
- Download
as Excel spreadsheet (54kb .xls)
- Download as
PDF (14kb .pdf) requires Acrobat Reader
To be used for putting on file with the Association
all animals used in Upgrading or Crossbred/Composite breeding
programmes.
For example, parents of another breed which are going to be used
as a Base for natural or AI breeding have to be recorded here,
once only. The same applies for Recipient cows being used in Senepol
Embryo Transplant breeding. Females to be flushed as Donor Cows
can be recorded here also. In the case of other breed, or “Unregistered”
Senepol commercial donor females, they would be recorded here
as Donors, not as Base parents. Cows which are “Registered”,
ie. are already in the herd book as either Grade or Purebred females,
it is not necessary to re-record their details on this form even
if you intend to use them as Donors.
If you are using females of another breed which are registered
in another Breed herd book, it is suggested if possible to record
their pedigree details so as to enable a performance link if these
females are Breedplan recorded.
FORM
1 A – EMBRYO RECORDING
- Download as Excel spreadsheet (30kb .xls)
- Download
as PDF (8kb .pdf) requires Acrobat Reader
This form should be used if you purchase (Imported
or Domestic) embryos or if you produce them yourself. By recording
all Embryos, any future resultant calves which breeders may apply
for Registration of can be immediately matched by their unique
Embryo identification.
As the Association does not require compulsory DNA testing of
all Embryo calves, this is one means of ensuring a degree of pedigree
integrity.
As the use of multiple sires and/or dams increases (IVF) technology
the Association does require DNA testing of any resultant calves,
if the Multiple Sires column is completed “Y” (Yes).
All of the required Embryo details to be completed can be found
on the ET practitioners’ Flush sheet, which usually incorporates
Freezing and/or Transplant details. It is therefore imperative
if you purchase Embryos that you receive, if not the originals,
at least clear copies of these sheets which must accompany the
Embryo recording Form 1A when submitting to the Association.
If you are selling Embryos it is your responsibility to ensure
that they are recorded with the Association, or to supply all
of the necessary details to the purchaser to enable them to record
the Embryos.
When completing the Recipient dam details when the embryos are
implanted, it is advisable to put in as much information as you
can – basic details such as the breed and animal identification
or brand should be recorded on the ET technicians’ Implant
sheet.
FORM
2 – CALF REGISTRATION
- Download as
Excel spreadsheet (23kb .xls)
- Download as
PDF (21kb .pdf) requires Acrobat Reader
This form is used to apply for registration
of any naturally bred calves, calves bred using artificial insemination
and calves resulting from embryo transplant. The first column
asks for the Embryo Reference number which must match up with
the details entered on the Embryo Recording Form 1A, if the calf
is an ET calf.
The Association offers breeders the option of either using Ear
Tattooing or Branding or combination of both for the physical
identification of the animal. If you are using a Brand, the Association
needs to have on file a worded and/or pictorial description of
your brand and the Brand column should be completed with a “Y”
(Yes).
You are given the option of either Registering an animal, or just
Recording it as being born. The column headed “* Reg. Calf
Y/N” is where for example you would “record”
the birth of a male calf which is, or will be castrated, by placing
an “N” (No) here. Use also if you wish to just record
the birth of an animal but do not want to register it for any
reason. This enables the herd statistics to be updated and documents
a cows’ breeding performance.
Breedplan recording begins here with the input of a calves Birth
weight, and if possible a Management Group, so that similarly
treated calves in your herd can be contemporised.
